CDFI Initiative
AMN’s CDFI initiative is a groundbreaking initiative designed to strengthen the state’s network of Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs).
This initiative works along with AMN’s ongoing effort to increase the availability of capital, credit, and financial services for micro and small businesses, particularly those in underdeveloped, rural and economically underserved communities.
CDFIs are pivotal in fostering economic growth and financial inclusion by providing capital to underserved communities. In Alabama, CDFIs serve as vital resources for small and micro business owners who often face significant barriers when seeking funding from traditional financial institutions. By offering tailored financial products, technical assistance, and strategic support, CDFIs help entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses that contribute to local economic development.

For many micro and small businesses in Alabama, access to capital remains one of the biggest challenges to growth and success. Whether it’s securing start-up funding or getting working capital to fill an order, affordable financing remains a critical need. AMN’s CDFI Initiative aims to strengthen the connection between small business support organizations and CDFIs to help close this funding gap.
The AMN CDFI Initiative will work with CDFIs, small business support groups like SBDCs, chambers of commerce, local business development organizations, financial institutions, government agencies, and local nonprofits. Together, these groups help connect small businesses and communities to funding, resources and opportunities for economic growth.
The CDFI Initiative will:
-
-
- Lead to increased access to capital by helping more small and micro businesses secure affordable loans and financial services through CDFIs.
- Foster stronger partnerships among CDFIs, technical assistance providers, financial institutions, local governments, and community organizations to better serve entrepreneurs.
- Collect statewide data to track progress, identify service gaps, ensure accountability and impact and align CDFI efforts with the needs of local communities
- Engaged stakeholders through a range of collaborative and inclusive approaches that promote ongoing communication and shared decision-making. This will include regular meetings, workshops, and forums where CDFIs, small business support organizations, government agencies, community leaders, and financial institutions can share ideas and coordinate their efforts.
- Form advisory councils or working groups that include diverse representatives from both urban and rural areas across Alabama to help shape program goals and priorities.
- Connect stakeholders through digital platforms to exchange resources, best practices, and data. Continuous outreach will ensure that all partners stay informed, involved, and empowered to contribute to the success of the initiative.
